Spring “White” Etiquette

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

By: Chanteau Garrett, Fashion Editor

It’s now April 2009 and we can now finally celebrate the season of spring. I’m sure that we have all heard of the rules, “You can start wearing white on Easter,” and “You’re not to wear white after Labor Day.” Furthermore, it also pertains to white pumps and/or white dress shoes. While exempting, white tebbis shoes and off-white boots that are suitable to wear during this time. We know that “winter white” clothing consists of cream colored wools and linens, which is acceptable  between Labor Day and Memorial as well.

The logical reasoning behind wearing white is that it reflects light and heat, and wearing white also make you cooler in the winter time.  There is one key chic rule that I would like you to remember when wearing white.

Always wear nude color under garments

Wearing nude under garments while wearing white ensures that your underwear will be disclosed when wearing pants, dresses and skirts.

Try to always stay clean, remember that white does stain easily and there is nothing like seeing children and adults in soiled whites. It takes away from it’s classic, clean and pure look. Make sure that you iron your whites because a wrinkle is immediately recognized and I’m sure that you always want to preserve your sexy as Diddy would say.

It is spring  so enjoy your white, look nice, fashionable and most importantly chic!

Happy Spring Teen Chic Mag Readers!

Out with the Old, in with the New

Friday, March 20th, 2009

By: Chanteau Garrett, Feature Writer

Everyone remembers the saying: “Out with the old, in with the new,” of course you do. We tend to say it almost every day when something happens or when you want to replace something for a brand new item in your life. Well the time is here for us to say, “Out with the Old,” all you need to do is just go and dig in your closets and get rid of all the old items and purchase something new. As time passes by, we just need to let some things go and not think twice about it. You are probably thinking to your self, what do I need to get rid of in my closet?  Here is a list to get you thinking of items to let go:

  1.  Long denim ankle skirts

  2. Denim jean units

  3. Acid wash jeans

  4. Long denim jumpers sets

  5. Bell bottom pants

I know it’s hard sometimes because you think that style will be coming back soon. The things that we love the most is the hardest to let go but understand some items in your closet must go.

We have seen over the last few years that fashion changes and we recycle fashion every two decades (meaning every 20 years). The 80’s have been the recycled fashion for the past two years. So what is next? Are we going to put away our gold rope chains, our neon colored wind suits, flats tops, the B-Boy stance, the huge radio? Well, you have to stay in tune with fashion to find out. Fashion trends come and go and you will only know if you are IN THE KNOW!

Designer Issey Miyake Movement

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

TCM would like to say Congratulations to the designers of Issey Miyake for being the Designer of the Month. Issey Miyake is known for his technology-driven clothing designs, exhibitions and fragrances. Mr. Miyake was born in Hiroshima, Japan and founded the Miyake Design Studio after returning to Tokyo in 1970. He began to experiment with new methods of pleating that would allow both flexibility of movement for the wearer as well as ease of care and production.

With that said, here is a little background on how he started his career. In the late 1980’s, he began to experiment with new methods of pleating that would allow both flexibility of movement for the wearer as well as ease of care and production. This eventually resulted in a new technique called garment pleating and in the 1993 Pleats Please in which the garments are cut and sewn first, then sandwiched between layers of paper and fed into a heat press, where they are pleated. The fabric’s memory’ holds the pleats and when the garments are liberated from their paper cocoon, they are ready-to-wear.

Issey Miyake “oversees the overall direction of all lines created by his company”, even though the individual collections have been designed by his staff since his retirement from the fashion world in 1997.

Like many fashion designers, Issey Miyake also has a line of perfumes. His first fragrance, the light aquatic-floral L’eau d’Issey for women, was launched in 1992. The scent was followed by L’eau d’Issey Pour Homme (for men) in 1994. Every year since 2007, Issey Miyake has brought out a “limited time only” fragrance for ladies in which he brings in a “guest” perfumer. In 2007, he launched ‘Drop on a Petal’, and in 2008 he launched ‘Reflections in a Drop’. A new Issey Miyake men’s fragrance, L’eau d’Issey Pour Home Intense, was introduced at Nordstrom in the United States in 2007, with a larger worldwide rollout following in September 2007.

Fashion in the Mind

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

By: Chanteau Garrett, Fashion Editor

Fashion Information Please…..

If you are a die hard fashionista then you know within a few weeks will be one of the biggest weeks in fashion. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week February 13-20, 2009 which is held in New York City, there will be designers from around the world to show off their Fall 2009 Collections. Here is a list of a few designers that will be showing off their Fall 2009 Collections: LACOSTE, Nicole Miller, Tracy Reese, Diesel Black Gold, MAX AZRIA, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Project Runway. To see a full list of designers visit: www.mbfashionweek.com.

TCM would like to say congratulations to Max Azria for being designer of the month. Founder, Designer, Chairman and Chief Executive Office of BCBGMAXARIAGROUP, Max Azria is taking over the fashion industry one day at a time. Azria fabricated upon the accomplishment of his women’s ready-to-wear line and formed a lifestyle brand consisting of numerous high-fashion collections for women, including evening dresses, denim, outerwear, footwear, swimwear, handbags and small leather goods. Emphasizing BCBGMAXARIA as a first showing of American fashion brand, Azria successfully launched his collection on the runway for the first time during New York Fall 1996 Fashion Week. Well-known celebrities such as Hilary Duff, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kate Bosworth, and Rachel Bilson became the first fans of the brand name and continue to be a primary brand name in their everyday wardrobes.

Capturing inspiration from glamour and sensuality of Hollywood, California Azria constructs lavish and elegant one-of-a-kind gowns for celebrity clients such as: Sharon Stone, Halle Berry, Beyonce Knowles, Lucy Liu, Fergie, and Demi Moore and for red-carpet events.

In Fall 2008, BCBGMAXAZRIA and Max Azria during New York Fashion Week, Azria presented his Herve Leger by Max Azria collection. This marked the first time that an American designer constructed three major fashion shows for three distinct collections during one New York fashion week. The Fall 2008 season also observed the merging of the BCBGirls and To The Max collections to create one, comprehensive, young-contemporary lifestyle brand name BCBGeneration (pronounced BCBG Generation). “The collection is designed for women of all generations seeking fashion that balances a feminine, sexy aesthetic with an eclectic and urban sensibility”.

Max Azria has successfully build an outstanding portfolio of twenty-two brands: BCBGMAXAZRIA, BCBGMAXARIA Runway, Max Azria, Max Azria Atelier, BCBGeneration, BCBG Attitude, BCBGirls, Herve Leger by Max Azria, Herve Leger Couture, Max and Cleo, To The Max, Tex by Max Azria, Manoukian, Max Rave, Street Beat, True People, Parallel, Maxime, Noon, Don Algodon, Dorothee Bis and Dorotennis. With that being said BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP is a power house taking over the diversified fashion business in the world.
